One of the fastest and easiest ways to begin to incorporate moments of mindfulness into your daily routine, other than using the breath, is to connect to your senses. This means picking one of your five senses and asking yourself to identify three things using that sense, and then label them without adding judgment. For example, if it is sound you are going to connect to, ask yourself: “What are three sounds I hear right now?” And your answer might be: “the fan, the cars, and people.” Try to do this without labeling the fan as "annoying," the cars as "fast" and the people as "loud" (that is the judgment we want to avoid). Connecting to your senses can be something you do at any time to create more mindful moments of calm throughout your day.
